It is Halloween again...and when it comes to buying decorations (if I must) I usually have a lot more Christmas decorations than anything. So this year, as I was looking through my Southern Living Magazine, I came across the CUTEST handmade decorations I've seen in a while.
JACK O' LANTERN JARS!!!
Credit for this idea goes to Southern Living Magazine of course :)
These are the cutest things in the world. They are sooooo easy to make. And guess what??? They aren't those "tacky" type decorations that just make your house look messy!!
I'll tell you how I made them.
Materials:
- Any and every sized jars you can find
- Mod Podge (found in the 'glue' section of any craft store)
- Acrylic Paint (orange if you want pumkins, black for faces)
- Paint brushes
- Polyurethane (spray OR liquid in the can)
- Ribbon (optional)
- Tea candles (real ones OR battery operated)
Step 1-Paint clean jars completely with mod podge glue. This helps the paint to stick to the glass better. Let dry.
Step 2-After the glue dries, paint 1-2 coats of paint over the entire jar. (Don't paint too thick. You want the candle light to shine through) Let dry.
Step 3-Paint any faces you like with black paint!! Be creative! Also paint the rim of the jar as shown in the picture above, if you want it to look like it has a top.
Step 4-Coat in polyurethane. This makes the jar shiny again and also prevents the paint from scratching over time.
Step 5-Add ribbons.
Step 6-Place tea candles inside, light and enjoy!!!
I absolutely LOVE how these turned out. They look amazing on my bookshelves and even add a little fun light to my dark corner. Try them. They take maybe 30 minutes at the most!
Comment and tell me how yours turn out!
